A 3 ½-year prison term was imposed Wednesday on a man involved in an online scheme to sell shoplifted goods, as well as a string of break-ins across southwestern Ontario, Canada that netted him $70,000. Colin Mayer, 34, pleaded guilty earlier in Kitchener’s Ontario Court to two counts of possessing stolen property and conspiring to commit break-ins with a second man. Mayer had already served 21 months in custody. He was given double credit for that, which meant he had served his sentence. He was placed on 18 months probation and released. The first charges related to selling shoplifted items on eBay and at his rented business on King Street East in Kitchener. Police found more than 100 stolen items valued at $10,000 at his business. They included digital cameras, GPS systems and MP3 players. Mayer got the goods from people suspected of shoplifting at local stores, such as The Future Shop, Wal-Mart and Canadian Tire.
